Safe ways of use

Ways of use

Possible ways of use:

  • Swallow a pill
  • Smoking
  • Sniff
  • Injection

These are the most frequent ways of consumption of psychoactive substances. Amongst them the injection hides the biggest risks.
Risks of injection

The injection of psychoactive substances gives the following risks:

  • Infections – HIV virus (AIDS), hepatitis viruses (В,С)
  • Bacterial infections
  • Overdose
  • Veins damage
Possibilities of safe use

Rules for safe injection

  • Don’t use someone else’s instruments of use – nееdles, syringes, caps, spoons and filters, and don’t give yours to someone else.
  • In order to reduce the risk of infections, keep your instruments of use - nееdles, syringes, caps, spoons and filters, far from being in touch with someone else’s instruments.
  • Before and after the use, wash up with hot water all the instruments that you are going to use again. Use the needles and syringes only once.

Overdose

Don’t mix the use of different psychoactive substances. Very often the death from overdose is caused mainly by this kind of combination. Keep away especially from the mixture of sedative substances – alcohol, diazepam, valium, methadone and heroin.

It’s hard to make a right evaluation of the risk of mixing the substances, if one of them is swallowed and the other one is injected. When it is swallowed the effect can be felt after hours (0,5 – 4 hours). The expected effect during that time depends on many factors. The injection in that case could be a reason for overdose.

If you have a good awareness on the developed tolerance towards the used drug, consider that the habitual dose could also be a reason for an overdose. Two factors are important for the effect. The first factor is a change in the quality of the material and the second factor is a change of the context (the place of use, the psychological state).

If you are not sure in the quality of the substance, which you want to try, it’s better to test it. Take the half of it and if you get the desired effect, this means that the rest is better to be kept for the next use.

When you take drugs, it’s important never to stay alone. If there is a person with you, he/she can give you emergency help in case of overdose.

Vein damage

  • The injection should be done only in the veins. In the arteries the blood is under pressure, which could cause a tearing and bleeding, which is hard to cut off.
  • Use the smallest and thinnest needles. In that way the damage of the vein is smaller.
  • The needle should be put in direction to the blood stream. The pulling of the charger before you inject the dose is important to ensure you that the needle is still in the vein. If you have a tourniquet, untie it and be careful to inject the contеnts of the syringe slowly, in order to avoid a tearing of the vein.
  • It’s useless to draw out blood and to put it in again after the contents is already in the blood. This brings only new risks of damage.

Bacterial infections

You cannot do much to prevent these kinds of infections. The bacteria are everywhere around us. The water, the instruments, the hands and the skin on the place of the prick are not sterile. Though, the syringe and the needle after the pull out of the package are sterile. In the pharmacies water for injection is sold, which is also sterile.

Before the prick you can wipe off the place where you are going to inject with a spirituous tissue. It’s good to know that it’s possible that the mineral and boiled water, sold in the store, could consist of more bacteria than the fountain water.
